Alfresco dining is very popular at the moment, and we all dream of stylish outside living. Using the garden as an additional room lets you take full advantage of the few days we do get of summer sunshine with beautiful garden flowers and scented aroma.

There are some sensational stylish ideas for outdoor living especially from the camping world, and you can pick up all sorts of  gorgeous things, including outdoor tables and chairs, at affordable prices.

To create a magical outdoor setting an old wooden painted table or a table already outside is perfect when surrounded by different styles of chairs.

When eating outside there is no need for a uniform tablescape, anything goes and mismatching adds to the fun and attraction.

Simple table linen is the best approach, and for a very rustic feel wooden serving boards, wicker baskets and napkins tied with garden string are just the ticket.

Garden flowers are great for table centrepieces displayed in jam jars, glass bottles or simple vases.

Enamel jug and flowers

One current trend is for enamel with anything from enamel mugs to bottle carriers, and these also make great vessels for flowers.

A scattering of t-lights holders and lanterns around the dining area provide evening light source and a relaxed atmosphere.

Old buckets or an old wheelbarrow make great bottle holders, filled with ice to cool drinks perfectly.

When it comes to planning food the less fussy the better as food needs to be quick and easy.

A patio heater allows you to enjoy the delights of alfresco eating longer as the night air starts to cool things down.

If you are having friends around do have a plan B just in case there is a rain shower or two and that is where the garden shed comes in handy to shelter from the odd shower, or a cool breeze. I have a comfy 2-seater sofa in mine. Great for enjoying a glass of wine whilst I do my writing.

Whether it is a summer lunch, a weekend breakfast or just a coffee and reading the Sunday morning papers a table or chair near you back door makes great place to escape to as soon as the sun appears.

Enjoy alfresco dining this year.
